Senior Produce Markets Open for Business
A February 2009 UCLA study revealed that fully 50% of senior citizens in Riverside County living alone lacked sufficient income to feed themselves adequately.
That shocking statistic prompted Hidden Harvest to come up with eight free produce markets at senior centers and apartment complexes where low and fixed income seniors congregate.

Seniors arrived in wheelchairs, with oxygen, and using walkers. Many told us their difficulty in affording fresh produce and having to choose between the foods they want and the prescription drugs they need. |
Our fresh produce is displayed “market style” on long tables, and seniors are encouraged to “shop”---and everything is free. |
We also provide nutrition information and cooking tips for some people unfamiliar with items like bok choy, napa cabbage and dandelion leaves. |
If you can volunteer at the senior produce market, please contact us today for the location near you. |
